Program Mission: To support academic achievement through athletics

Position Summary

The Academic Support Coordinator will be responsible for assisting the Academic Director in developing and managing long-term relationships with Boston’s Higher Education institutions to enhance the academic capital provided to BSA Zone members through tutors & mentors. They will also be responsible for managing college fairs, summer programming and employment opportunities program members.

Location: Boston

Status: Exempt/Salary/DOE

Responsibilities

Oversight of Higher Education program and partnerships; including systems for recruiting, processing, training, tracking and scheduling of all BSA tutors
Assistance in creation, management, and collection of all Higher Education program data and evaluations to support monthly, quarterly, and annual goals/Key Performance Indicators
Build awareness of BSA’s tutor program through community engagement
Cultivate and nurture relationships with current and potential academic partners; including all Higher Education institutions, BPS staff, corporations, and non-profit organizations to ensure sustainability and effectiveness of the program
Oversight of all College Fairs and College Readiness seminars; including marketing, registration, planning, and executing of event
Oversight of the Summer Jobs Program; including management of the partnership with the Private Industry Council to provide the maximum benefit to BSA Zone members
Oversight of the Summer Zone; including marketing, registration, planning and execution of program
Consistent communication with Facilitators and front office staff as it relates to the tutor program

Professional Requirements

BSA is seeking an experienced professional with a minimum of 2-3 years of successful Higher Education and tutor program management experience, including 2-3 years managing intricate relationships in a sophisticated organization with a reputation for excellence. A demonstrable track record of personally identifying, cultivating, and managing volunteers, tutors and/or mentors to support academic development is essential. In addition s/he will have:

Bachelor’s degree
A solid understanding of nonprofit principles and best practices;
A track record as an effective communicator; highly developed skills in writing and speaking; competence in creating strategic reports and performance evaluations; receptive and responsive to feedback; the ability to communicate the program’s mission and interests to a broad audience;
Passion for philanthropy and nonprofit work;
Organized; ability to multi-task; detail oriented;
Works well under pressure to meet deadlines;

Personal Characteristics

The ideal candidate will be dependable and equipped with strong leadership skills and adept at planning, prioritizing, organizing and following through; highly energetic and able to balance multiple competing priorities. In addition, s/he will be:

Comfortable with goal setting, quantifying results and accountability;
Committed to, knowledgeable of, and enthusiastic about the program’s mission and Higher Education initiatives;
Understanding of the subtleties of motivating and directing a diverse group of personalities;
Persuasive, persistent, and determined in the pursuit of the organization’s tutoring goals;
Straightforward and self-possessed; one who shares information readily, listens as well as gives advice and respects the abilities of others; diplomatic;
Energetic and willing to work hands-on in developing and executing a variety of academic initiatives ranging from the day-to-day to the highly creative and visible;
Possessed of a strong work ethic;
Self-motivated and detail oriented.
